The celebration of the Eucharist with the theme “Jesus the bread of Life: Nourished by Him Gawing Habit for Life”, opened up the Nutrition Month activities for the year 2017 . The Nutrition Mass was held last July 7, 2017 at St. Michael Gymnasium at 8 AM. Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, the DWCU President emphasized that to be healthy, to be in good shape is to recognize Jesus as the Bread of Life. He also said that Health is wealth, wealth is health and Nutrition Month Celebration is a special time to go back to this basic affirmation of life.

The College Department was incharge of the liturgy during the said celebration. Within the mass, the birthday celebrants for the month of June to July were also introduced through a video presentation and the Mass Presider Fr. Ibay offered a prayer for them. After the mass, fruit carving and cooking contests were introduced and facilitated by the Class Advisers headed by the Mr. Jay-R Soriano.

DSC_0678Despite the continuous rain last July 28, 2017, the DWCU pushed through with the culmination of the Nutrition Month Celebration for this school year 2017 – 2018. This year’s Nutrition Month theme is “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life”. The students from High School and Elementary Departments gathered at the St. Michael Gymnasium for the said culmination event. Ms. Marjorie Gonzales, the SSG Religion Coordinator of the High School Department led the culmination with an opening prayer followed by the welcome address given by Ms. Carolina T. Sayapen, the Pre-school and Elementary Principal.

Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, the DWCU President stated on his message for the Nutrition Month that in order for us to practice or live the 2017 Nutrition Month’s theme “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life”, we need to BELIEVE, SUCCEED and ACHIEVE! Believe that health is wealth, believe that our wealth is having a sound body and a sound mind. Succeed is to commit ourselves with passion to be always in good shape, eating and promoting healthy food here in our school and in our families; and to ACHIEVE our theme is to work together as a family and as an educational community to have a healthy diet. He further stated that “when you believe you succeed, when you succeed you achieve!”

The theme “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life” were expressed through different competitions – Fruit Carving, Cooking, Nutrijingle and Zumba. Certificates of Appreciation and Recognition were awarded to the winners of the said contests. Mrs. Marlyn Laroco, the High School Principal gave the closing remarks and a prayer and blessings was given by Fr. Ibay to end the celebration.

DWCU HOSTS CEAP REGION 1 CONVENTION

CEAP 2017 backdropMore than one thousand (1,000) delegates from different provinces of Region 1 attended the CEAP Regional Convention held at Divine Word College of Urdaneta last July 22, 2017. The said activity started with a mass at 8:30 AM presided by Rev. Fr. Numeriano A. Gabot, Jr., Vicar-General of the Diocese of Urdaneta. At 9:00 AM, Fr. Crisanto Draculan, the Superintendent of the Diocesan Schools of Urdaneta gave his sincere welcome to the participants. Msgr. Manuel S. Bravo, Trustee-President, CEAP Regional 1 presented the overview of the assembly. Dr. Everlita N. Quinto, Trustee-Secretary of CEAP Region 1 was tasked to present the Diocesan delegates and religious schools to the assembly.

The CEAP President Fr. Joel E. Tabora, SJ, was also present, inspiring and motivating the different CEAP Schools of Region 1 to continue pursuing excellence as a school and as a Catholic Institution. “As a Catholic school immersed and rooted in the society, with its challenges, it has the mission to make an impact in the society,” highlighted by Fr. Tabora.

Most Rev. Socrates B. Villegas, DD., Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan

Most Rev. Socrates B. Villegas, DD, Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan was the keynote speaker of the convention. His message revolved around the theme “Communio: Building and Sustaining Communities for Life.” Archbishop Villegas emphasized that “Communion is first and foremost a communion with Christ and Church. Communion is citizenship, communion is compassion, courtesy and communion is for life.”

Moreover, the Executive Director of FAPE, Ms. Rhodora Angela A. Ferrer, updated the delegates on PEAC & FAPE achievements and plans. In the afternoon, Fr. Elmer G. Dizon, Vice President of CEAP gave an input on Phil Catholic Schools Standard (PCCS) to the members of the convention. Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, the CEAP legal counsel talked about the legal cases confronting the Catholic Schools. The closing remarks was given by Fr. Cirilo Ortega, SVD, Vice Trustee, Region 1 and closing prayer and blessings was given by Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, President of DWCU. The convention ended at 5:00 PM. It was indeed a concrete experience of communion among the catholic schools in Region 1.

DWCU SUPREME STUDENT GOVERNMENT SY 2017 – 2018

ELECTION OF THE OFFICERS OF THE SUPREME STUDENT GOVERNMENT (SSG) FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2017 – 2018

The election occurred last Friday, July 7, 2017. A day before such election, the different candidates from the two parties namely Socialized and Unified Leaders of New Generation (SULONG) and Peers Offering and Wellness in Education and Responsibilities (POWER) had the Meeting de Avance at the St. Michael Gymnasium from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The candidates introduced themselves and expressed their dream to serve the school inviting their fellow students to cast their votes to fulfill such commitment.

Last Monday, July 10, 2017, after the flag ceremony, Ms. Marilyn A. Abenes, the SSG Adviser, announced the elected officers before the students, teachers, and Administrators. At that moment, Bill Henry Hernaez, Grade 12 student, the elected SSG President expressed his sincere gratitude for the trust and confidence he received and likewise his commitment to serve the school as a leader.

Ms. Marilyn Abenes extended her congratulations to the new set of officers motivating them to give their best in serving their fellow students. She encouraged them to work together so that they could easily realized the task entrusted to them for the benefit of the whole educational community.

Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, the DWCU President also ventilated his gratitude and congratulations to the newly elected SSG Officers. Likewise, he offered a prayer & blessing to them. Fr. Ibay asserted that their position and authority are not meant for their personal upliftment but they are gifts given to them by God to be used and shared for the good of DWCU Community.

DWCU-PTA GEN. ASSEMBLY 2017

 DWCU – PTA GENERAL ASSEMBLY  

SY 2017 – 2018

The DWCU-PTA General Assembly was held last July 8, 2017 at the DWCU St. Michael Gymnasium. The assembly started at 8:40 in the morning. Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, gave the welcome address thanking the Parents & Teachers for their active involvement in delivering quality education for the learners.  He also highlighted the role of the Parents as the first educators for their children.  In his message, he pointed out that DWCU continues to be an excellent school, a Catholic School, and an SVD School. He said that this objective is attained when Parents, Teachers, Students and Administration of DWCU work as a TEAM.

Mrs. Rosemarie Drapiza, the out-going PTA President reported their achievements during their term. She also took such opportunity to thank the Parents & Teachers for their unselfish support to their projects as an association. “I have felt your help and this motivated me to serve our institution for the benefit of our children,” said the out-going PTA President.

The said assembly ended with an Oath Taking of the PTA newly elected officers for SY 2017 – 2018 together with the Parents-Teachers Classroom Officers. The administering officer was Fr. Roberto J. Ibay, SVD, DWCU President. Mr. Neil Tablada, the current PTA President said that, “There is a joy in serving DWCU for it is my Alma Mater and the school of our children!”
