Officially starting with an Orientation last June 6, 2012 at the St. Michael Gymnasium was a grand way of Divine Word College of Urdaneta in making a bold statement of starting the School Year 2012-2013 right.
Divine Word College of Urdaneta faces new challenges and great expectations as it opens its doors for returning students and new ones, especially those that will pioneer Grade 7 in high school. This is also the start of the formal launch of the K to 12 Program as being implemented at present by the Department of Education.
The program hosted by Mrs. Teresa R. Pontaoe, started at 8:00 with a short tableau rendition by the CAT officers that focused on the modern Filipino heroes. It was immediately followed by the entry of colors and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
Before the start of the opening prayer led by Fr. Tanysun C. Sunico, SVD, a doxology video clip was shown. After that, Mr. Reynald T. Mamasig, high school principal, officially welcomed the students and gave his message that focused on giving the students the chance to grasp all the opportunities that the institution will offer.
The orientation would not be complete without the introduction of the Years and Sections which was presented by Mr. Raymond C. Lopez, who literally invigorated the crowd as they cheered not only for their sections but also on the introduction of the Faculty and Staff as well.
Fr. Gil T. Manalo, SVD, the school president, had brought back the program’s solemnity as he gave his inspirational message for the students to ponder. He encouraged all who were present inside the gymnasium to change for the better.
Before the continuation to the other parts of the orientation program, the CAT officers conducted a dance energizer to pump up the students. It was then followed by Mr. Louise C. Lorian’s presentation of the DWCU Vision-Mission Statement and brief historical background of the institution; the Sports Program and Activities as introduced by Mr. John V. Ramos; and the Academic and Religious Organizations as acquainted by Ms. Carolina T. Sayapen.
Mrs. Marissa T. Sanchez had also given a lecture on the Code of Discipline of DWCU. It was a way to forewarn the students on the consequences they will encounter in case they committed any violations written on the student manual.
Intermissions during the program were also performed by some teachers and selected students to preserve the students’ intensity and excitement in beginning the school year.
As a way of culminating the program, a closing prayer in the form of a song was performed by Penelope Ann Medrano and Mr. Romer A. Majarucon.
The students’ orientation resumed in their respective classrooms together with their advisers in the afternoon of the said day.
