DWCU ATHLETES PARTICIPATE IN THE

2011 MILO LITTLE OLYMPICS

Selected athletes of Divine Word College of Urdaneta joined other delegates from different parts of Luzon to participate in one of the biggest sporting events in the country – The Milo Little Olympics. This year, participants from different schools from Regions I, II, III, and CAR took the opportunity to compete in different sporting events at the Narciso Ramos Stadium Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan on August 5, 6, and 7. This is the first time that Divine Word College of Urdaneta will participate in such an event.

Despite the bad weather, the opening program went on last August 5. Supporters of the different schools flocked the venue rooting for their schools to win the said competition. Delegates from as far as Zambales, Nueva Vizcaya, Ilocos and Isabela joined the parade of delegates, and unbothered by the unpredictable weather that brought about drizzle and heavy rains took the center stage to present their delegates along with their saludo. Gov. Amado Espino gave an inspiring message for all participants especially the athletes. After the governor’s declaration of the official opening, fireworks of various colors flew to the sky and confetti rained down along with the rain that was pouring.

The official start of the games was the next day. Each school participated in a minimum of three events. Divinians, of course, took this opportunity to prepare for the upcoming meets in the division of Urdaneta aiming for a better level of competition and experience. Events joined by the Divinians were Table Tennis, Badminton, Athletics, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Football, and Little Miss Milo. Unfortunately, DWCU brought nothing home but the pride of joining the said event and gaining enormous experience is worth all the effort.
