“Sa Pagkaing Tama at Sapat,
Wastong Timbang ni Baby ang Katapat”
Every year the Divine Word College of Urdaneta celebrates Nutrition Month as mandated by section 7 of Presidential Decree No. 491 (Nutrition Act of the Philippines, 25 June 1974). The Department of Education likewise issued the memorandum 301 series of 2010 with this directive: ” Considering the importance of the celebration, all DepEd central, regional and division offices are enjoined to undertake activities that should highlight the importance of breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Studies have shown that the levels of malnutrition climb to three (3) to four (4) times among infants before they turn one (1) year old and stay up until the children are of school age. Malnutrition especially during the first two years of life is not acceptable because this results to irreversible damage to children. Not only is their health compromised but also their productivity when they reach adulthood, which eventually impacts on the economic growth of the country.”
The observance of this year’s nutrition month at the Divine Word College of Urdaneta commenced during the celebration of the Word and the Eucharist last July 2 on the occasion of the First Friday Mass. Since then every day of the week the whole academic community witnessed different activities and events related to the theme and the objectives of the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education as well.
Last July 30 the celebration reached its culmination with simultaneous programs: 1) the Pre-Elementary and Elementary Department at the St. Arnoldus Hall of the Divine Word Formation Center, 2) the High School being the biggest department used the St. Michael’s Gymnasium as their venue while 3) the College Department occupied the whole third floor of the St. Augustine Building. The culmination started at 8:00 o’clock in the morning capped by common lunch by departments. A kaleidoscope of activities, presentations, programs is presented in pictures below:
