The Pilgrim Image of Fatima Visits the Diocese of Urdaneta

THE DWCU WELCOMES THE PILGRIM IMAGE IN A VIGIL AND A MASS

The Divine Word College of Urdaneta academic community warmly welcomed the Pilgrim Image of our Lady of Fatima last July 27, 2010 in a vigil for an hour and the celebration of the Word and the Eucharist with Most. Rev. Jacinto A. Jose, DD the bishop of the diocese of Urdaneta as the main celebrant together with the clergy and the SVD Fathers.
The Bishop and the clergy lauded the “full force”, magnanimous support and presence of the Divinians with all the departments of this Marian Lovers institution. Our beloved Lady is the mother of the Divine Word, Mary is our mother. We pray for her intercession that every Divinian will be placed under the mantle of her maternal protection.
The image is one of the original statues blessed by Pope Paul VI and was later brought to the Philippines and crowned as the National Pilgrim Image during the launching of the National Marian Year in December 1984. It was subsequently entrusted to Bahay Maria for care and protection until it was permanently handed to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima on October 17, 1999. The Pilgrim Image was the forefront of the “EDSA People Power Revolution” in 1986 where Our Lady, through the image, showed her maternal protection to our people. This is the reason why the image of Our Lady of Fatima is considered as the universal image of peace. During the solemn rites of her turn-over to the National Shrine, the signing of an “Agreement for Acceptance of Responsibility for Care and Protection” was also made. Since then, the image has been a witness of numerous note-worthy events which shaped the history of the Church and the society.

Bp. Francisco F. Claver, S.J., D.D.

(1929-2010)

Bp. Francisco F. Claver, DD

Emeritus Bishop of Bontoc-Lagawe joined our Father in heaven last 01 July 2010 just before 3:00 AM at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Born 20 January 1929, joined the Jesuit Order 30 May 1948, ordained Presbyter 18 June 1961, ordained Bishop 22 August 1969, for Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Apostolic Vicar of Bontoc-Lagawe.

“Bishop Cisco was a great shepherd, prophet, teacher and writer. With his lucidity of thought and expression, his depth of faith and courage, his profound ability to discern the signs of the times, he contributed in countless… ways to the building up of “a new way of being Church” in Malaybalay, Bontoc-Lagawe, Mindanao, the Philippines and Asia. With his passing, we can now gratefully take stock of all that we owe to his leadership, his writing, and his person. Behind his apparent gruffness were humor, humility and humanity. Mentor, brother and friend: may you be eternally joyful with the Lord.” Rev. Fr. Danny Huang, SJ

Fr. Doms Ramos, SVD, when he served as the Regional Director of the John Paul I Biblical Center and the Northern Luzon Biblical Pastoral Ministry for six years (2002-2008) was privileged to assist the bishop during his stints in Arch/Diocesan Pastoral Assemblies around Northern Luzon as resource person. The late bishop always gave emphasis on the role of the Word of God in building Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs).

Bishop Claver was a member of (SLB) Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan Board of Trustees from year 2006 until his death. Dying with his boots on, Bishop Claver was a true servant of his people and servant of God.

“Bishop Cisco, we thank you for your total and dedicated service.”
