DWCU Celebrates the Opening Mass for the New School Year 2009-2010

Rev. Fr. Jaekel Solde, SVD filled with the Holy Spirit presided the opening mass of the Divine Word College of Urdaneta ushering the new school year 2009-2010 with the theme: “Come Holy Spirit”. Fr. Jaekel in his fiery and inspiring homily gave emphasis on the unconditional love of God expounding on the gospel message of the day; holding and raising high a red catolina formed as a big heart representing the human and the Sacred Heart of Jesus where each one is lovingly kept unconditionally. The mass to the Holy Spirit (red mass) coincided with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart declared by our mother church as the Day of prayer for the sanctification of priests.
The rector of the SVD community Rev. Fr. Bernard Teneza, SVD recognized the presence of Fr. Judy Banez, SVD our missionary from Argentina and introduced the SVDs who are presently assigned at the DWCU and the DWFC (see their picture).
In his capacity as the President, Fr. Doms O. Ramos, SVD introduced the new members of the Board of Trustees and the following administrators/the board appointees for this year:
Pre-School/Elementary Principal Mrs. Marina M. Domingo, High School Principal Mrs. Marlyn R. Laroco, College Dean Mrs. Leonida D. Javillo, School Registrar Mrs. Joelita M. Bernabe, Research and Extension Dr. Trofima M. Pangonilo and HRM-Alumni Affairs Mrs. Marissa Tabar T. Sanchez. The different department heads introduced the roster list of faculty members (teaching force) to whole academic community as the Administrative Officer presented the non-academic personnel. The whole student body then was warmly applauded and welcomed to the DWCU for this new academic year. 
The school president disclosed the importance and significance of this school year when we celebrate the culmination of the Centennial Jubilee of the arrival of the Divine Word Missionaries in the Philippines this coming August 21-23, the recent declaration of Pope Benedict the XVI on the Year of the Priests, the ushering of the National Election of 2010 and the challenge of the A(H1N1) virus declared earlier by the WHO in its pandemic stage.
Mrs. Joelita M. Bernabe the school registrar led the Prayer of Commitment of the DWCU administrators, Faculty and non-academic personnel while Ms. Ysnow Padilla on the part of the students led the pledge of commitment of all pupils and students. The Eucharistic celebration ended with the SVD Centennial prayer and the final blessing of the celebrant Fr. Jaekel.
